about
Today was a quiet day for me, I had the day off work, and whilst rooting through old files I'd saved onto disc years ago, I found all the chord sheets for the songs I wrote with my first band, The Emotional Problems Of Dirk Diggler.

The songs which I believed to be our best, were The Hiding and The Ballad Of Sonny Gritts, a character me and Ryan Mulholland (bass) dreamt up when song writing over MSN messenger.

Sonny Gritts was a fictional early 1900s mobster character, and we started with the song which documents his death, The Ballad Of Sonny Gritts.

We recorded this for our demo, TEPODD : Are Drunk and the original version can be heard here :

A little while later, we wrote a second song, The Hiding Of Sonny Gritts, which was the song leading upto Sonny's death. We almost completed a recording of this for our EP, however we split up before finishing it.

You can hear the version of The Hiding Of Sonny Gritts that we recorded here :

At some point, when TEPODD were still together, we wrote a couple of other bits, one piece was an instrumental bit we used a few times as our first track when playing gigs, called "The Overture Of Sonny Gritts", however it was never recorded for prosperity, nor can I remember how it went in order to figure it out.

Another bit I forgot about was a track called "The Dying Words Of Sonny Gritts", I don't even know if the rest of the band ever heard this, but I've recorded it for this release. There was a time when I wanted to release a full concept album/EP about Sonny Gritts. I guess this is as close as I'll ever get.

---

Finally, in my Ukulele Kris days (currently), I decided to revisit the Sonny Gritts character, and wrote a song wrote from another persons perspective. This is "Hey Sonny!"

---

I have tried to place all the songs in an order which I guess sort of makes narrative sense, but everything has been recorded on the microphone on my webcam, and it ain't high art. I just wanted the Sonny Gritts songs recorded and put out there, purely for prosperity.

---

Thanks go to: Ryan, for coming up with the character with me, Pete, Scott, and Arran, from TEPODD.
