about

Bandcamp leaves me a section where I can tell you about this album.

There's not a great deal to tell you, except these are songs that I wrote, and then recorded. I think it's also important to tell you not to expect a political punk album full of protest songs. Aside from "JSA (Dolescum)", I'm not interested in sharing my political ideas in song form.

Instead, I prefer to tell stories with my songs, and this EP has the stories of two characters. I hope you enjoy these bleak tales. Maybe their stories are over, and maybe they aren't...

I look forward to sharing more stories in the future, but in the meantime I'd like to thank a whole shitload of people.

Thanks to :
Mum and Dad, for creating me. Ryan Mulholland for inventing the character of Sonny Gritts with me over MSN Messenger, many moons ago. Mary Agnes for being AWESOME. Rob Collins of www.TinGuitar.com for the bacon butties and building The Whokulele. Claire Deakin, for taking me to Hollesley Ukulele Jamboree 2010. Keith Martin for using his spare time to record me. Jon Andrews, and Gemma Eggle for all the excellent photos. Mark Lugubrious for the gigs.

I'd also like to thank the following for their enduring friendship & support (In alphabetical order, so no bruised egos, ok?):
Asher Baker, Brad Shepherd, Chivnail, Chris Davies, Claire Collum, Dave Byrne (No I won't play The Internet Song again), Debbie Deighton, Esme Tearle, Edward Keane, Ed Parker, Eloise Staniforth, Fern Halfpenny, Gary Palmer, Gareth Hughes, Ian Emmerson, Joe Atkinson, Judy Foster, Jake Welsh, Joanne Jones, John Hayhurst, Luke Yates, Matt Wixson, Michael McKechnie, Phil Doleman, Peter Donohoe, Paul Redfern, Rhys Wynne, Ryan Peacock, Richard Heaven, Ronald Hallgren, Rachael Corbett, See Har, Simon Jones, Theo Araby-Kirkpatrick, and you, for reading this, and listening to my music.

Track Name: The Ballad Of Sonny Gritts
I don't know what you're thinking, when I look into your eyes,
Everything you say to me, well it comes as no surprise.

I know what you're thinking now, I read you like a book.

You're thinking how, to do away with me,
Lace up my cement shoes, and then throw me in the sea.

And so you want me to drown, well you can't cut any corners this time.

I don't wanna die, your gruesome death,
I never heard, such a sordid tale before,
Sonny Gritts! Just another victim of,
Davy Jones' locker, his home town is Atlantis now.

Life beneath the sea, it seems so easy,
Only in, the comics and magazines.

My eyes are falling shut, well I guess that my 9 lives are up.

I don't wanna die, your gruesome death,
I never heard, such a sordid tale before,
Sonny Gritts! Just another victim of,
Davy Jones' locker, his home town is Atlantis now.

Just another victim of, Davy Jones' locker,
His home town is Atlantis now.
Just another victim of, Davy Jones' locker,
His home town is Atlantis now.
Just another victim of, Davy Jones' locker,
His home town is Atlantis now!

I don't wanna die, your gruesome death,
I never heard, such a sordid tale before,
Sonny Gritts! Just another victim of,
Davy Jones' locker, his home town is Atlantis now.
Track Name: The Hiding Of Sonny Gritts
For the past two years, I've been on the run,
People come in middle of the night,
Wielding tommy guns,
I don't know what exactly I have done.

What should I do?,
Where should I go?
I ask if they will hide me,
And all they say is no,
I wanna know if I'll make it out alive.

Who would have thought in this in sleepy city,
Organised crime,
It's such a pity,
Gangsters roaming the streets at night.

The names Sonny Gritts,
I got a price on my head,
I don't know what I've done,
I only know I'm wanted dead,
So much for living the high life in the mob.

Who would have thought in this in sleepy city,
Organised crime,
It's such a pity,
Gangsters roaming the streets at night.

I'm singing you this song,
From a shaded alley,
I'm hoping I might just see this through.

Who would have thought in this sleepy city,
That Sonny Gritts might not be around,
For ever!
Track Name: Hey Sonny!
Let me tell you a story, about a guy I used to know,
He got mixed up in the wrong crowd,
And his life got thrown away,
Got thrown away,
Yeah his life got thrown away.

Called himself Sonny, 'coz he thought that it sounded fly,
Didn't realise that the mob life would be the reason he would die,
He would die,
It would be the reason that he would die.

Hey Sonny what you doing today?
You don't have to be like this,
Your life doesn't have to go this way,
Hey Sonny, why you doing that?
Did nobody tell you,
That crime doesn't pay,
Crime doesn't pay.

Look into his dark brown eyes you will see,
The child that is lost inside,
He's wondering, what's he doing here,
With this crowd,
What's he doing here with this crowd?

Hey Sonny what you doing today?
You don't have to be like this,
Your life doesn't have to go this way,
Hey Sonny, why you doing that?
Did nobody tell you,
That crime doesn't pay,
Crime doesn't pay.

Oh Sonny Gritts, you've made some mistakes,
Didn't realise this lifestyle,
Would cause you so much pain,
And so much sorrow,
Cause you so much pain and sorrow.

Hey Sonny what you doing today?
You don't have to be like this,
Your life doesn't have to go this way,
Hey Sonny, why you doing that?
Did nobody tell you,
That crime doesn't pay,
Crime doesn't pay.

Hey Sonny what you doing today?
You don't have to be like this,
Your life doesn't have to go this way,
Hey Sonny, why you doing that?
Did nobody tell you,
That crime doesn't pay,
Crime doesn't pay.
Crime doesn't pay.
CRIME DOESN'T PAY.
Track Name: Sally
Oh Sally, I see the way you're looking,
You're looking right straight through me,
Pretending you can't see me,
Oh lets not play those games again,
You're messing with my head,
Why don't you come back to bed.

But she leaves, for the night,
I never see her until the morning light,
When she comes, back to bed,
Tries not to wake me,
Plants a kiss upon my head.

Oh Sally, I'd like to know where you go,
When you go out late at night,
And leave me on my own,
Where are you?,
I'm out driving in my car,
You've only been gone an hour,
You can't have got too far.

Then I see her, standing there,
Wearing her shortest skirt,
And a ribbon in her hair,
As she waits, as I watch,
She cannot see me I'm hiding in the dark.

She gets in to a blacked out Capri,
It swiftly drives off, the only one left is me,
I go back to the place we live,
Waiting for her return,
Waiting for her return...
Track Name: Sally II
Oh Sally, what you done this time?
I've got to come for you again.
No forewarning, no reason or rhyme,
What trouble have you found yourself in?

And I'm calling
Oh I'm calling
...
But the answer never comes.

I'm searching,
Yeah I'm searching,
Searching for that answer,
But the answer never comes.

Oh Sally, can you hear my voice?
Calling through the dark.
I'm calling, above all the noise,
Surely you can't have got too far.

And I'm calling
Oh I'm calling
...
But the answer never comes.

I'm searching
Yeah I'm searching,
...
But the answer never comes.

I'm searching
Yeah I'm searching,
Searching for that answer
But the answer never comes.

I'm calling...

I'm searching...

... for you
Track Name: JSA (Dolescum)
Every other Friday,
When I go to that place,
That fucking awful place,
Don't wanna go, oh don't make me go.
Where they treat you like scum,
Got you under their thumb,
Force you into jobs that you don't want,
So they can meet, their weekly quota.

Wasn't there a time when they were there to help you?,
But now the governmental cuts have put a stop to that,
And unemployment's rising, so why not cut more jobs?
How fucked up is that?

When you go to their desk,
And you take in a deep breath,
And pray that they don't decide,
To suspend, your JSA on a whim.
You've applied for 12 jobs,
Double what they request,
But 'coz you didn't check the local press,
You failed to meet, your jobseeker's agreement.

Wasn't there a time when they were there to help you?,
But now the governmental cuts have put a stop to that,
And unemployment's rising, so why not cut more jobs?
How fucked up is that?

It's not like I'm trying,
To screw the system,
I'm actively looking for work,
So please don't treat, me with your suspicion.
I jump through the hoops,
Do what you want me to do,
And every time the goalposts move,
So you can screw, someone else over.

Wasn't there a time when they were there to help you?,
But now the governmental cuts have put a stop to that,
And unemployment's rising, so why not cut more jobs?
How fucked up...
How fucked up...
How fucked up is that?
